Tell us about your background:
Merideth Gilmor is an accomplished communications strategist and executive with over 20 years of experience leading global brand management, public relations, and marketing initiatives for some of the world’s most recognized brands.

She began her career at Condé Nast in New York, working in public relations for renowned publications including Mademoiselle, GQ, and Women’s Sports & Fitness. From there, she transitioned into the fashion industry, spearheading global communications for Escada and Sergio Rossi, part of the Gucci Group. In these roles, Merideth developed deep expertise in entertainment marketing, editorial strategy, and luxury lifestyle branding.

Merideth later joined Nike, Inc. as Head of Global Communications for Cole Haan, where she led public relations, strategic partnerships, high-profile events, and cultural collaborations. Most recently, she served as Director of Communications and Brand for Oakley, a division of EssilorLuxottica, overseeing brand strategy, media relations, and integrated marketing efforts.

Building on her corporate experience, Merideth founded Modern Global Communications (MGC)—a boutique agency specializing in branding, marketing, and public relations for international blue-chip brands and world-class talent. Her diverse client roster has included Porsche, Tourneau, Juliska, Supergoop!, and professional athletes such as Maria Sharapova, Colin Kaepernick, Cam Newton, and the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream.

Her strategic leadership has been recognized in a Harvard Business School case study on marketing Maria Sharapova and profiled by PRWeek for her crisis communications expertise during Sharapova’s doping scandal. Merideth also directed the communications strategy behind Colin Kaepernick’s social justice movement, helping shape a global conversation at the intersection of sports, culture, and activism.

Merideth lives in Wilton, Connecticut, with her husband and their son, Colin, and maintains offices in New York City.

What are your top networking tips for building strong connections in your industry?
