In Conversation with Ariadna Pedret

Tell us about your background:

I am originally from Barcelona, Spain and I have been living in NYC for 19 years. I have been a set designer and prop stylist for the last 10 years working for fashion, beauty and jewelry brands.

What do you wish you’d known when you started out?

When I started working that I could express my point of view, I was shy or reticent to share it.

Best career advice you've ever received?

Stand in your own light and also there is room for everyone.

What leadership qualities are important to you?

Knowing how to listen, collaboration, kindness, encouragement and being able to make decisions.

What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?

The biggest challenge is how to keep on growing, not only getting more clients but also being able to contribute and still grow in new creative settings. Remaining open to new work opportunities even if they don’t look like what I have done before.

How do you define success in your career, and how has that definition evolved over time?

Success is having a balance, being able to be part of a great team at work, collaborating together and accomplish beautiful images, and a safe and loving personal life.

How has networking contributed to your professional growth and success?

Starting as a stylist assistant on set allowed me to network with producers, photographers, assistants to photographers, art directors etc that I ended up working with on my own jobs, networking has helped me a lot.

What are your top networking tips for building strong connections in your industry?

Pay attention at work, be helpful, be kind and respectful with everyone and when you share your point of view, work is a collaboration.
