In Conversation with Kaila Gay

Tell us about your background:

I'm 23 and graduated with my Masters of Science in Marketing in early May. I have a B.A. in Sociology which has provided a great lens and approach to marketing, communications, etc. My previous internships were in PR and Marketing & Events for clients across lifestyle, fashion, beauty, and health & wellness. I have been obsessed with fashion and beauty since I was little, so working in those spaces is very exciting and rewarding for me.

Best career advice you've ever received?

"As you walk, the path appears."

As I was wrapping up my degree, I realized that I had no idea what I wanted to do: my M.S. was analytics heavy, but I loved creative, strategy, and branding. I felt like I had to know everything and have the next 40 years figured out. One day, during a networking panel, someone said: "As you walk, the path will appear" (she had quoted something else). I finally let go of feeling like I had to plan my whole life out at 23.

What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?

I am just starting my career! Which has been a challenge in and of itself.
